August 2010

As the new school year approaches and summer holidays wane, the month of August marks a “new year” of sorts. What better time to rethink your looks and invest in a few new key pieces for late summer and fall. The stores at Town Square are stocked with the latest looks and trends to make your shopping excursion easy.

Cool off With Iced Tea
Hot summer nights in August set the stage for a cool glass of ice tea. Teavana (702-263-0659)comes to the rescue with its Camellia Cylindre Glass Tea Maker ($39.99).  This versatile 34oz glass tea maker can be used to make iced or hot tea with ease - and without an infuser. Simply add hot water and tea then steep and pour as usual for hot tea. Or add hot water and stick in your refrigerator until cool (or add ice) for iced tea. No need to remove the leaves, it has a fine mesh filter built in.  Pair it with  Lemon Youkou, a refreshingly sweet and sour mélange of tart citrus pieces and fragrant flower petals that bring to mind warm, sun-filled days and balmy spring nights. Perfect hot or iced and a great choice for kids. This tea is caffeine free and is $6.80 per 2 ounces.

What to do:  Visit Coffee Bean for Book of the Month
My Brother’s Voice is a true, historical account that picks up where Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl leaves off. Stephen “Pista” Nasser was 13-years-old when the Nazis whisked him and his family away from their home in Hungary to Auschwitz. The only survivor from a family of 21, his memories of that terrifying experience are still vivid, and his love for his brother Andris still brings a husky tone to his voice when he remembers the terrible ordeal they endured together. Nasser wrote this account not to ask for pity or retribution, but to tell the truth that could allow us to save ourselves from ourselves. His powerful lectures have been presented more than 450 times to audiences totaling nearly 100,000 people. Nasser will be signing copies of My Brother’s Voice ($14.95) on Saturday August 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

image READ: This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper
The death of Judd Foxman's father marks the first time that the entire Foxman clan has congregated in years. There is, however, one conspicuous absence: Judd's wife, Jen, whose affair with his radio- shock-jock boss has recently become painfully public. Simultaneously mourning the demise of his father and his marriage, Judd joins his dysfunctional family as they reluctantly sit shiva and spend seven days and nights under the same roof. The week quickly spins out of control as longstanding grudges resurface, secrets are revealed and old passions are reawakened. Then Jen delivers the clincher: she's pregnant. This Is Where I Leave You ($15) is Jonathan Tropper's most accomplished work to date, and a riotously funny, emotionally raw novel about love, marriage, divorce, family, and the ties that bind-whether we like it or not. For more information call Borders at 702-383-6734.
